DISCLAIMER: [before half of you get pissed at me xD]
I like my art. FFF. I do. I wouldn't upload it to DA if I hated it. That being said, I'm struggling with it and I want to fix it to make it better, but this might require a radical change which is one of the things that I'm struggling with the most. So please don't get all angry at me and think I'm complaining about my art, or try to convince me that it's fine and doesn't need to change, because that's not what this is about. I'm being active about the problem and trying to change it, rather than moping. So I don't need sympathy, just some pointers. I appreciate the encouragement I get from my friends when I talk about problems I have with my art, but what I appreciate even more than that is advice, so please help me out! 8D
For the most part, all of my pictures lack a few of the same main things. I am debatably skilled more or less at a lot of elements when it comes to my drawings, but there are so many things I lack skill in completely and they turn out amateurish or don't turn out at all [as I tend to avoid these things xD] and its seriously bringing my art down several levels from where I think it has potential to rise.
The main issues are:
Backgrounds oh holy mother eff backgrounds. Can somebody give me tips on making backgrounds? Some of the problems I have are with the perspective, but also I just can't draw a lot of things well other than people, xD such as buildings, trees, furniture. Not only that, but I kind of... seriously lack creativity when it comes to these things. I'm so lost when it comes to designing detailed interior or exterior, which is why when I do bother to do a background its like. OH SKY. OH OCEAN. OH ROOM WITH... A CHAIR AND A PAINTING AND NOTHING ELSE. OTL. So what I guess I need here is some advice concerning not only execution and drawing typical...background-dwelling items...xD, but also some inspiration as far as design and placement and such things like that. ouo.
Poses though I suppose this one is a bit more self explanatory. My poses are just not very creative xD and when I try to be creative the execution is mildly terrible [well, on occasion it's outright ghastly but I tend to scrap those particular pictures]. I'm not very good at making people look natural or graceful, and it's even harder to make dynamic. I also can't seem to them interact with each other and look natural about it. I need inspiration for poses in general, but I also need to work on executing them. I think a lot of my struggling with this has to do with my limited understanding of anatomy xD so I'm gonna lump that in with poses as one of the things I need help with.
Perspective even more self explanatory than the last. I simply can't seem to get a grasp on how things look from certain dynamic angles. Any tips on how to overcome that?
Clothes ...which is weird because I get a lot of compliments on the clothes in my drawings, but I always thought they lacked really original design. I mean, I don't have much of a problem with modern clothes, but anything where it comes to fantasy and creativity and I fall flat. Part of this has to do with how I draw clothes, in which I generally make them really form fitting. Which I hate because is takes away all volume and I much prefer pictures with interesting shapes Dx. I want to make clothes with interesting shapes and designs that have volume, but still look real as far as wrinkles and whatnot and executing how they fall on the body.
Colors which is another surprise maybe. I get a lot of compliments on my colors too, but I'm so exasperated with them xD. I mean, sometimes I get lucky and have a great color scheme, but lately I've been feeling pretty lost with them. I'm so bad at choosing colors that go together, and then the picture looks cluttered and amateurish. This also has to do with lighting a lot. I fail epically at lighting when it comes to both placement and color. Like it will be night, and the people will look like it's flipping daytime. /cry. So yeah, here I need some inspiration and advice as far as color choice, and themes, and lighting/colored lighting.
Overall composition fdjgkfjd what a bitch. This may well be my worst area, even though it kind of combines all these things. But I can never get everything to go together. I can't seem to combine poses, backgrounds, clothes, and maintain the proper perspective on things altogether in one picture. I can't get it all to blend together and look like a scene. My main struggle is placement. I don't know how far to 'zoom in' or whatever, like if the scene would look better up close or at a distance, and then I don't know where in the image I should place the people, the props, and everything else. It's definitely the most frustrating, because it's a lack of understanding here that drags my pictures down the most.
So as far as what you can do to help. Unfortunately, you can't just give me a magic bag filled with extra talent xD. But advice is great. Wonderful. So is inspiration.
Saying "just keep practicing!" doesn't really help much xD unless if only to reinforce the importance of this obvious tip.
But the main thing I'm looking for are things like this:
-Personal tips on technique, things you keep in mind when you're drawing, ways that you go about doing these things I am completely lost about.
-References to tutorials that have greatly helped you or people you know, or something of that sort.
-Inspiration, whether it's something you do in real life to get inspired, or just links and references to books or websites or whatever miscellaneous thing you draw inspiration from.
Uhh yeah, and anything else like that. I think you guys understand.
Also, the more of you who comment, the better. There's nothing I can really do to pay you back for your help and for your patience in reading all of this xD but if you help me out in giving me this head start in improving gfjdkgfd I would be very very grateful. Also, if you have friends who you think could help me out, or want to advertise this journal ;D I would be also very grateful xD.
OKAY. Thanks so much for your time reading this *A* I know I wouldn't want to read it if I were my watcher... bahah OTL.

When your feelings get through to someone and you make that person happy, and you see him or her smile, what a wonderful feeling it is... And how truely wonderful, if that someone is the one you love...

Another thing that may not be too much of help, but then again kinda maybe would is those little poseable mannequin doll things? They cant move around too much, but sometimes playing with those gives ideas?

I will try to help even though I suck at drawing LMAO *A*
backgrounds - okie, I suck at these. I need to practice with them too.. have you noticed 99.9% of my deviations have NO BG'S AT ALL?! pff
poses - For poses, if i'm feeling ... uh... pose-blocked? LOL well I go to MUSIC VIDEOSS 8DD Some that are just full of dance OuO/ I sketch one of the poses from the dance & develop it~ uhhhm well I recently found this mv : [link] it's a bit O__O but there are loads of rly awesome poses you can use in your artwork OOO: Plus it's a good song lmao *u*
Perspective - I have nothing to contribute to this, this is my absolute weak spot D: I'mm gonna read the comments for perspective after I send this
Clothes - AHHH I LOVE drawing clothes Q___Q;; There are so many ways!! Like~~~
get some friends to pick a colour & a fruit, then draw an outfit that matches both of them~ Or like, look at fashion magazines and interpret them into your old style - heck even use REALLY OLD magazines like from the 90's (lmao if you have any?!) I'm sure you can find some old magazine pages on the internet~ Also if you see some clothes in a shop and you're like "OMG THAT IS SO CUTE/AWESOME" again, sketch it & interpret/modify it into your own~ the end ' product' doesn't even need to look like what it's based off OuO/
Colours - I'm not too good at lighting/shading myself.... I always thout your colours were great though, imo O: As for colour schemes & themes...
red, orange, yellow ect in that sort of colour scheme makes a picture look EXITING or maybe evil~ expecially if there's black!
black, blue, white, grey, silver ect colour scheme looks cold and / or depressing, with grey and silver a sort of mechanical/robotic feel
green, yellow, blue ect colour scheme gives a very calmish feeling, especially if it looks like the colours have been washed out (like... opacity at 50% )
pink, purple ect gives an excitable or cute, maybe visual-kei sort of feel
gold, yellow, white ect makes the picture look royal or just happy (w/o gold)
If you mix colour schemes together you can create any emotion rly :>
Overall composition - I ALSO SUCK AT THIS ;; But I'm trying to improve, so I'll just say what I do to try help that out D:;;;; so first of all, on the base layer in LIGHT RED colour, I do the bg sketch, like where the stuff is, not making it detailed or anything, just pointing out where stuff is (like trees, moon, sun, horizon, blablablaaa) and on a seperate layer I do the person sketch in LIGHT BLUE colour (if there is a person in the picture) then I do the person / people lineaert and bg on seperate layers - first I do the person lineart and erase the blue lines, then I work on the bg behind the lineart. Then, I do the colours & shades according to how I've done the bg ;u;/
LOL and before you say "Mad... you don't have any picts with bg's D:" I do I just don't put alot of them up =/////= *is too self-conscious w/ that* The main thing is - DON'T make the bg colouring style different from the person colouring style! If it doesn't look the same, it looks strange >: (LMAO trust meeee OTLOTLOTL)
I HOPE THAT HELPED Q____Q!!!!!

Color: when I choose color schemes I use complimentary colors, but I'm not sure if that's alright. xD here's a website about color schemes:

as for clothes, I'm not good at seeing how they fall on people, but I love designing them. So when you design clothes just think about what you would like to see, do I make sense? xP
I suck at describing things..... lol
